Students must be at least 15 1/2 years of age to get a permit. If you are 15 1/2 - 17 1/2 years old, you must provide proof that you completed driver education.
The provisional permit is not valid until you start your behind the wheel driver training with a licensed instructor or reach 17 1/2 years of age.
If you are at least 17 1/2 years of age you may obtain your permit without completing driver education or driver training but you cannot get your driver license until you are 18 years old.
To get your provisional driver license you must:
Take advantage of our DMV approved online driver education course. You complete the required 30 hour course from the comfort of your home at your pace. Upon completion of the course you will receive a certificate of completion (DMV form DL-400C) and will be eligible to take the DMV written exam for your instructional permit.

DMV Final is a great option for both the student and their parents. You use our vehicle to take your DMV behind the wheel test. We schedule your test for you, pick you up a hour before your scheduled appointment, go over the items on the test, and get you checked in at the DMV. This is just like your final exam for a class, however, you will have an instructor who goes over the questions right before the test so there is no need to stress. You can feel confident on your big day!
